چکیده

ABSTRACT Recently, several eclipsing millisecond pulsars have been shown to experience strong and apparent weak lensing from the outflow of their ionized companions. Lensing can be a powerful probe plasma, with strongest lenses potentially resolving emission regions pulsars. Understanding in ‘laboratory-like’ conditions an pulsar may analogously applied fast radio bursts, many which reside dense, magnetized environments. We examined variable dispersion measure (DM), absorption, scattering, flux density original Black Widow PSR B1957+20 through eclipse at Arecibo Observatory $327\, {\rm MHz}$. discovered clear evidence two regimes lensing, strong, weak. show that variations apparently regime modelled directly DM, using geometric optics. The mean effective velocities ingress, $(954\pm 99)\, km\, s^{-1}}$, egress $(604\pm 47)\, s^{-1}}$ cannot explained by orbital motions alone, but are consistent significant velocity material companion. also optics predict when where regime-change between occurs, argue is due averaging images. Our framework any source electron columns, measuring relative distances. In other pulsars, this provides unique opportunity companion velocity, principle independently constrain inclinations.

Identification of the Optical Counterpart of Fermi Black Widow Millisecond Pulsar Psr J1544+4937

We report the optical identification of the companion to the Fermi black widow millisecond pulsar PSR J1544+4937. We find a highly variable source on Keck LRIS images at the nominal pulsar position, with 2 magnitude variations over orbital period in the B, g, R, and I bands. The nearly achromatic light curves are difficult to explain with a simply irradiated hemisphere model, and suggest that t...

XMM-Newton Observations of the Black Widow Pulsar PSR B1957+20

We report on XMM-Newton observations of the “Black Widow pulsar”, PSR B1957+20. The pulsar’s X-ray emission is non-thermal and best modeled with a single powerlaw spectrum of photon index 2.03+0.51 −0.36. No coherent X-ray pulsations at the pulsar’s spin-period could be detected, though a strong binary-phase dependence of the X-ray flux is observed for the first time. The data suggest that the ...

Orbital Evolution of an Accreting Millisecond Pulsar: Witnessing the Banquet of a Black Widow

We have performed a timing analysis of all the four X-ray outbursts from the accreting millisecond pulsar SAX J1808.4−3658 observed so far by the PCA on board RXTE. For each of the outbursts we derived the best-fit value of the time of ascending node passage. We find that these times follow a parabolic trend, which gives an orbital period derivative Ṗorb = (3.40±0.12)×10 −12 s/s, and a refined ...

Orbital Evolution of an Accreting Millisecond Pulsar: Witnessing the Banquet of a Hidden Black Widow

We have performed a timing analysis of all the four X-ray outbursts from the accreting millisecond pulsar SAX J1808.4−3658 observed so far by RXTE. For each of the outbursts we have found the local best orbital solution, keeping fixed to their best fit values the orbital period and the a sin i amplitude, and fitting for the time of ascending node passage. Plotting the best-fit values obtained i...
